2. Being made to go to Chapel

Everyone knows that we have Freshmen experience on Tuesdays and Chapel on Thursdays. I honestly do not like being made to go to these functions. I like my Freshmen experience group because they are funny, but I still don't like being made to go. Chapel isn't really that good because I don't get that much out of it. We are in college now and shouldn't be made to do anything like that. I would be more inclined to go if I knew I wasn't being made to go.
I knew that I was going to be made to go to Chapel before I came here, but I didn't think it would hit me like it has now. I really enjoyed the freedom of going to church because I wanted to, not because I was being made. I don't want to be treated like a little kid anymore because I am starting to grow up.

Some of you will probably look down on me because you think that everybody should be made to go to church and all that good stuff. I am a Christian, but I believe that you should have a choice to go to Chapel. God gave all of us a choice to chose his free gift of salvation. We should be given a choice to go to Chapel or not. Forcing religion on somebody who is not a Christian will not bring them closer to God. It will only push them away.

I guess I haven't really thought that much about being made to go to chapel...for me its just another time slot in my planner...I do enjoy singing though so that is one perk for me...I guess you could think of it more as a nice, dark place to sit for a while, away from all the stress of class...that probably doesn't help though, but hey, you can't say I didn't try...

that deffinately is one way of looking at it.
i agree with you though..i don't feel that anyone should be forced to go to church.
which i to am a christian but i believe in being able to chose wether or not you want to go and where you want to go.
well we are being forced so lets try and look at it in a positive way.

Holmes describes chapel as something that should build community and give students a common goal. I don't think ours does that. It seems like it's more of a joke to most people. I heard 2nd semester is a lot better though. But I can totally visualize a chapel where the speaker speaks on the students' level and causes people to really think. It's be cool!

the gift of choice. I agree TJ, that we should be motivated so much by the Holy Spirit that going to chapel and church shouldn't seem like a "forced" action. we should "want" to gather in a place where we can worship God along with other believers, If not simply because most people around the world aren't as fortunate to have that opportunity.

I agree with you on that....I do think that chaped should be an option and we should be able to chose whether or not we attend.

I definitely think chapel should be an option. I know personally that the more you force me to do something the less chance there is of me actually doing it.

I agree with you on this subject. And I hope that it doesn't push anyone away from God.

I also agree with you although its not that big of a deal to me. This is simply because after dropping one of my classes I only have thirteen hours now, so it doesnt really affect me in terms of taking up time.
